Course summary

Cities don’t change by accident—they change when people learn to understand them, love them, and serve them together. This course will equip you with a practical framework for seeing your city through fresh eyes, discerning its unique opportunities and challenges, and responding with wisdom and purpose. From discovering the mission of God’s Kingdom and the role of the Ecclesia, to learning how to read your city’s culture and assets, and ultimately transforming research into collaborative action, each module builds toward one goal: helping you become a catalyst for lasting, city-wide transformation. Modul 1 - The mission. This module explores the bigger story behind God’s mission in the world and the unique role cities play within it. You’ll discover what the Kingdom of God means in practice, why every city has a distinct calling, and how the Ecclesia is meant to serve as a transformative presence in its community. Together, we’ll examine the essential missional elements that enable believers to bring hope, reconciliation, and lasting change to the places where they live, work, and lead. Modul 2 - Reading your city Learning to read your city is the first step toward serving it well. In this module, you’ll discover why understanding your local context matters, explore practical frameworks for observing and interpreting the dynamics of your city, and learn how to identify its strengths, challenges, and opportunities. You’ll also complete an asset-based assessment that helps you recognize the people, resources, and relationships God has already placed within your community—providing a foundation for meaningful and sustainable impact. Modul 3 - From research to action. Research is only valuable when it leads to meaningful action. In this module, you’ll learn how to turn insights about your city into practical initiatives that create lasting impact. We’ll explore how healthy city ecosystems function, what it takes to build collaborative city movements, and the tools that help leaders connect people, organizations, and resources around a shared vision for the common good.
